Privacy policy

This policy explains what ZiA (“we”) collects when you use the ZiA app, the ZiA Merchant app and this website, why, and what you can do about it. ZiA is responsible for your personal data. Questions go to hello@ziaexperiences.co.tz.
What we collect
Your account. Your first and last name, mobile number and email address. Your password is stored by our sign-in provider as a one-way hash; nobody at ZiA can read it.
What you buy. The deals you buy, when, the price, your voucher reference codes, and — if you choose one — the day you plan to visit. When you pay, the mobile money number you pay from is sent to our payment provider to request the payment. It is not saved to your profile.
What you write. Reviews you leave after a visit. A review is public and shows your first name and the first letter of your last name.
What you save. Deals you bookmark, and the notifications we send you in the app, such as “your voucher is ready” or an expiry reminder.
What you search for. The words you type into search are sent to find matching deals. We do not keep a history of your searches.
Venues. For businesses using ZiA Merchant: the venue’s contact details, the deals and photos it submits, and the bank details it is paid into.
If you ask us to delete your account from this website. The phone number or email address you give us, and anything you write in the note, so we can find and act on your request.
What we do not collect
- Your location. When you sort deals by distance, your position is used on your phone to work out how far away each deal is. It is never sent to us or stored.
- Your browsing. The deals you have recently looked at, and the interests you choose when you first open the app, stay on your phone.
- Advertising or tracking data. ZiA shows no ads and contains no analytics or advertising trackers. We do not read your contacts.
How we use it
- To run your account, sell you vouchers and let venues redeem them.
- To take payment, and to refund it where our terms say we will.
- To send you codes that prove your phone or email, receipts, and reminders about vouchers you hold.
- To tell a venue who to expect: your first name, the first letter of your last name, and the day you plan to visit, if you gave one. A venue never receives your phone number or email.
- To prevent fraud and misuse, and to keep the records tax and accounting law require.
We do not sell your personal data.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of providers, who process data only to provide their service to us:
- Snippe, our licensed payment provider — your name, email and paying number, to take payment.
- Briq — your mobile number, to text you a verification code.
- Resend — your email address and the content of receipts and codes we email you.
- Supabase — hosting for our database and sign-in.
- Vercel — hosting for this website and our staff tools.
Some of these providers may store or process data outside Tanzania.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove your name, phone number and email from it, delete your saved deals, your notifications and any emails waiting to be sent, and end every session. We keep the record of purchases, vouchers and reviews, because tax and accounting law require it — but it no longer identifies you, and your reviews then show as “A customer”.
We keep a deletion request made through this website until we have acted on it, as a record that you asked.
Your rights
Under Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct it, object to how we use it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@ziaexperiences.co.tz. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission.
Deleting your account
In the ZiA app, go to Profile and choose Delete account. If you can no longer use the app, request deletion here.
Security
Data travels between the apps and our servers encrypted. Access to personal data is limited to the staff who need it to run ZiA.
Children
ZiA is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app when a change affects you.
